St. Louis-Chicago-Ann Arbor

Hubs actually had to work from the hotel the whole morning. We were lucky that Wan invited us for lunch at her place. Makan spanish rice. Betul tak tu Wan? Ain had a vast amount of time playing with baby Safiyyah as well as baby's toys. Habis semua bende dia nak naik! Tumpang solat and left around 2pm. Mann felt tired so I took over the wheels for about 2 hours plus. It was 5 hours trip back to Chicago. We stopped by the halal KFC and A&W at Lombard and headed back to AA after that. The supposedly 4 hour trip from Chicago-AA was stretched longer as we had to stop at a rest area for a nap and only reached home around 5am.

Gateway Arch, St. Louis

Jalan clear!

We left our hotel before noon, had brunch at McD and drove to downtown soon after. The streets were totally CLEAR as it was Memorial Day. Parking was no problem at all. To reach the arch, we had to walk along a beauutiful pathway, surrounded by greeneries. The arch was only visible towards the end of the path, menunjukkan betapa shadynyer pokok2 kat situ.

There were ferry and helicopter rides apart from getting up the arch, but we decided to only get up on the arch as there was not much time to spare and the arch was the main purpose why we came to St. Louis in the first place.

We had a short tour around the museum (Museum of Westward Expansion) that was located at the base of the structure and bought some fridge magnets from the museum store before queing for the ride up. Ain was excited to see the animals on display.

I was scared that we, especially Ain might get claustraphobic while in the tram going up the arch as it was really tiny and could only fit 5 persons, all sitting down. You could hear the clickety clack sound of the machine trying to pull several trams up (probably 10) at one time. The concept is like ferris wheel and it's really centuries old. Oh yes, Ain was excited to get up on it, she shouted "Oh boy!" out loud sampai semua org pandang and senyum kat dia.

The room at the top of the arch was really small and there were several windows for lookout. We could see both the east side (Mississippi river) and the west side of St.Louis. 10 minutes pun dah cukup kat atas tu tapi kena tunggu for the next available trip down.

We felt relieved to be able to go up on the arch and was happy to leave the site shortly after 4pm. Masuk kereta terus pergi rumah Wan (my ex-secondary schoolmate), afterwhich she and her husband guided us to an open house held by another Malaysian yg dah veteran kat St. Louis, Kak Ros and Abg. Zul. The hosts were genuinely friendly and foods were aplenty and sedap2 semuanya. Too bad, didn't get to snap any pics. Lupa pulak! Managed to play with anak Wan (Safiyyah) and met a few other Malaysians.

Gurnee, IL to St.Louis, MO.

Chicago Penang restaurant.

Checked out and headed to Chicago downtown to look for specific stores. The roads were surprisingly packed, hence only managed to reach Penang restaurant at China town around 4pm. Makan roti canai, kuey teow and rice accompanied by a plate of whole fish (tak ingat apa lak, masak style apa pun dah tak ingat). Sedappp!!!

Then, stopped by Jasenko/Malisa's resident to pay a visit to their newborn son, Daniel. Sesat pulak la. Panjang ceritanya.. Lis' mom had just arrived from Singapore to help them out. Stayed for tea and solat and left their resident not long before 8pm.

For silly reason, we didn't check the weather in St.Louis and didn't anticipate any thunderstorm at all. Chicago's weather had been great! Tak sangka pulak. I was terrified during the journey and couldn't stop saying my prayers. Lightning je, terus terkejut! Heheh... Siap beli fridge magnet of St.Louis with lightning lagi! Alhamdulillah, we reached our hotel at Maryland Heights safe and sound around 2 am .

Ayah had been complaining that he hadn't gone for any roller coaster rides for years. Nak ajak mommy naik? Tak payahlah.

This was a last minute trip. Had been looking forward for it weeks before but wasn't sure about it until ayah submitted the first chapter of his thesis. So he spent the day finishing up his thesis, and by afternoon said, we could all go NOW! Barulah nak book hotel and bought the theme park tixs online. Aci tak?

So we left really late in the afternoon, stopped by the lighthouse premium outlet and continued the journey to Gurnee, IL. Oh yes, singgah KFC, Devon Ave. in Chicago for dinner sat. Gurnee was only 1 hour away from Chicago downtown. Alhamdulillah, we managed to reach our hotel which is very close to Six Flags around 1 am.

Next day, we spent the whole day in Six Flags. Seronok la jugak. Ayah rode 3 rides (The iron wolf, superman and batman) He said, satu kena berdiri, satu lagi mcm nk terbang and the other one hanging.

Ain LOVEEE the wiggles theme park!!! She rode on the red airplane for ntah how many times. Seven times I think. Drove the big red car around the track twice and went up the fruit thingy that spins in the air once. We even watched the wiggles show. None of the wiggles were present actually, only the theme park staffs dressed as the octopus, wags the dog, dorothy the dinosaur and captain feathersword. We watched it TWICE!! and boy was Ain sure had a lot of FUN!!!

Malam, off to Devon Avenue we went for a buffet dinner at Sher-A-Punjab. Best!!! Ain was extremely tired that she slept throughout the time. Sian anak mommy, letih...

Wah rindunya nak pi six flags.... penah pi yg kat st. louis tu...memang happening!!!!!!!! Mon 23-Jun-2008 08:50

I'd trimmed her bangs few times in the past, but this is the first time I cut her long hair. Didn't cut much anyway. I still keep her hair below shoulder. Look at that cheeky girl watching and dancing to the Hi-5 show!
